Some members of the Bellarie family are going directly to jail, and it’s going to take a lot of plotting and scheming to get out of this one. Watch the first few minutes of Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black Season 3 above to see their downfall unfold.
Season 2 ended with the FBI raiding the Bellarie offices, capping off a major power shift for the family. With Horace (Ricco Ross) at her side, Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams) transformed from a dancer at Delinda’s Dolls and Dudes into Mrs. Bellarie, secured her place atop the family empire, and formed an unexpected alliance with her former enemy Mallory (Crystle Stewart). But when you’re a Bellarie, reaching the top is only half the battle. Staying there, preferably without landing in handcuffs, is another matter entirely.
Season 3 picks up in the immediate aftermath of the raid, as federal agents order everyone onto their feet. That includes Olivia (Debbi Morgan), who quickly reminds them that she’s in a wheelchair. Unfortunately for her, Norman is happy to clarify: “She can walk.”
As the arrests unfold, Jules (Charles Malik Whitfield) urges everyone to “be real quiet,” but Roy (Julian Horton) can’t help reacting to the revelation that Horace has turned state’s evidence. Jules bluntly spells out what happened: “Your father just set you up. And you walked right into it with your stupid ass.”
At Horace’s estate, Rain (Amber Reign Smith) is preparing to take charge of Delinda’s Dolls and Dudes, the strip club where she and Kimmie once worked as dancers. Or, as Angel (Xavier Smalls) calls it, that “raggedy ass club.” Though Angel swears he’ll never set foot inside it again, Rain still jokes that she’ll have the stage ready for him when his ambiguous situationship with Horace falls apart and he inevitably returns to dancing. Apparently, new ownership doesn’t mean the old drama is going anywhere.
While the other Bellaries face the fallout, Kimmie isn’t ready to declare victory just yet. Back at the Bellarie offices, she, Horace, Mallory, and Varney (Terrell Carter) take stock of the chess game they’ve played against the rest of the family. Still, Kimmie can’t shake the feeling that their victory has come a little too easily, asking whether her rivals might find a way out of jail. As Horace reminds her, “You can never be too sure”— especially when this family is involved.
