“Something from the Upside Down must have survived last year,” Dustin says in a new teaser for the upcoming animated series Stranger Things: Tale From ’85. The project comes from showrunner Eric Robles (Glitch TechsFanboy & Chum Chum) and Stranger Things co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer.

The sneak peek, which you can watch above, previews the strange new creatures roaming around Hawkins. “It’s like Hawkins Lab science meets Upside Down matter,” Robles tells Tudum. “When you put them together, those are the kinds of creatures we have in our world.”

Plus, we get our first glimpse of Steve Harrington, voiced by Jeremy Jordan (SupergirlHazbin Hotel) in the series.

Two characters seen from above sit inside a vehicle with glowing blue light between them, looking up with surprised and fearful expressions.

Launching April 23, Tales From ’85 follows Eleven (Brooklyn Davey Norstedt), Mike (Luca Diaz), Will (Benjamin Plessala), Dustin (Braxton Quinney), Lucas (Elisha “EJ” Williams), and Max (In Your Dreams’s Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) during the winter of 1985. With the gate to the Upside Down closed, our heroes have returned to a normal routine of Dungeons & Dragons and snowball fights.

A figure wielding an axe confronts a large, menacing tentacled creature in a snowy, dark forest under glowing purple light.
A man wearing a police jacket and a boy stand close together outside a wooden cabin. Snowy forest is visible outside, suggesting a tense conversation in a winter setting.
Two kids, one holding an axe and the other driving, sit in a vehicle splattered with glowing yellow goo, looking surprised and tense.

“But beneath the ice, something terrifying has awakened,” the synopsis reads. “Could it be from the Upside Down? From the depths of Hawkins Lab? Or from somewhere else entirely? Our heroes must race to solve this mystery and save Hawkins in this new story set in the Stranger Things universe.”

Additional voice cast includes Brett Gipson as Hopper and Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips in yet-to-be-revealed roles.

Robles also executive produces the series via Flying Bark Productions, along with the Duffer Brothers and Hilary Leavitt via Upside Down Pictures, Shawn Levy via 21 Laps, and Dan Cohen.
