Every December, former President Barack Obama releases a list of his favorite books, songs and movies of the year, often prompting reactions like, “Wow, I should really read more nonfiction,” and “Wait, Obama listens to Phoebe Bridgers?” He shared his favorite books earlier this month, but on Dec. 16, he told us what he’s been watching — and some of his favorites are Netflix originals. (Like us, he clearly can’t stop thinking about The Power of the Dog.)
“Each of these films tells a powerful story, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did,” he wrote on Twitter. Among his 14 standout films were the Jane Campion-directed Western The Power of the Dog and Passing, the star-studded drama film based on the 1929 novel of the same name. You can check out the full list here.

This isn’t the first time Obama has given Netflix some love. Last year, he praised movies like Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and breakout hit series The Queen’s Gambit. The year before that, his favorites included Marriage Story, The Irishman, and Unbelievable. He and Michelle have also produced numerous Netflix projects, including the documentaries American Factory and Crip Camp, through their company Higher Ground Productions.
In the coming days, we can expect a glimpse into the music that made his Spotify Wrapped. Maybe he’ll even drop a few of his favorite shows. But hey, Obama, if you’re reading this and looking for something to watch next — we have a few more recommendations.
