You didn’t need the psychic powers of a Raven to have divined this news: Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as the titular antihero, will return for Season 3. But you probably didn’t expect our little storm cloud to be dropping into the City of Love. A new image captured on the set of the upcoming season shows Wednesday taking a European detour. Mercredi in Paris?

The Season 3 renewal was announced before the debut of Season 2, which is now streaming on Netflix. It’s a sign — or an omen — of many more stories to tell, and of the series’ wide appeal. “Television has — and always will be — a team sport,” says co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough. “[Co-creator and co-showrunner] Miles [Millar] and I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans. We remain grateful and excited to continue this journey and tell these stories with all of our partners.” The first season of Wednesday remains the most-viewed English-language series on Netflix of all time.

A growing trail of clues, including a newly surfaced BTS photo, suggests Season 3 may be taking its gloom somewhere new. Read on for everything to know about Wednesday’s next mystery.

Where is Wednesday Season 3 filming?

Au revoir, Nevermore? Production for Season 3 has been underway near Dublin, but a newly surfaced behind-the-scenes image — which you can see above — hints Wednesday might be taking a shift from Nevermore’s shadowy halls to something a little more chicly sinister.

Consider yourself warned: If Wednesday’s heading to Paris, it may not stay picturesque for long.

What can I expect from Wednesday Season 3?

Wednesday Addams’s new misadventures will push her further than ever before. “Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,” says Gough. “We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.” Millar adds, “We will be seeing more Addams family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!”

Who is joining the Wednesday Season 3 cast?

Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, The Abandons), Andrew McCarthy (St. Elmo’s FireBrats), and James Lance (Ted Lasso) will join previously announced newcomers Winona Ryder (Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Stranger Things), Chris Sarandon (Dog Day Afternoon, The Princess Bride), Noah Taylor (Peaky Blinders, Game of Thrones), Oscar Morgan (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Gotham Knights), and Kennedy Moyer (Task, Roofman).

Earlier, Netflix announced that French actor and longtime Tim Burton collaborator Eva Green has been cast as the enigmatic and “missing” Aunt Ophelia, sister of Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Aunt Ophelia is one of the most mysterious figures in the Wednesday universe, and we can be sure Green as Ophelia will make an unforgettable impact on the new season.

Gough and Millar told Tudum in an exclusive statement, “Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen — elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia. We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world.”

Green said to Tudum, “I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”

Burton added, “I’m so excited to be back for Season 3, and it’s great to be reunited with all of the original cast. The addition of some dear friends and past collaborators of mine — Winona, Eva, Chris, Noah … makes this season extra special. I feel very lucky.” Check back here for more casting announcements.

What happened in the Wednesday Season 2 ending?

Season 2 explored darker, more complex stories, while also retaining the show’s signature macabre humor as Wednesday dove into intriguing new supernatural mysteries. The spooky tale crescendoed with the woeful Season 2 finale. “Hopefully fans are very surprised and very satisfied by the finale,” Gough says. Millar agrees, adding that he hopes the reveals in Episode 8 provided “a nice breadcrumb that leads audiences to wonder about Season 3 and what the new adventure for Wednesday will be.”

What is the Wednesday Season 3 release date?

As far as any more plot details or release dates, we’ll keep our eye on the crystal ball, but for now, the twisted minds behind Wednesday are staying dead silent — they won’t offer even a single rotting morsel. “Sure,” teases Millar, “but then I’d have to bury you in a shallow grave.”

Wednesday’s next chapter might be further in the future, but you can lurk in Nevermore’s Gothic hallways right now. All eight episodes of Season 2 are available — and beckoning you into the dark. Keep coming back to Tudum for even more Wednesday news as Season 3 approaches.
