Sweet birthday bay-beeee, it’s almost time to take another temporal spin through the East Village. The long-awaited second season of Russian Doll premieres April 20, and it’s diving even deeper into the layers of our reality.

Season 2 catches up with Nadia and Alan (Natasha Lyonne and Charlie Barnett) four years after they were left stranded, but together, in two separate timelines. And things only get more complicated from there. According to the logline, “Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations.” At first, a whirl through the past might seem like a step up from Season 1’s endless cycle of death and rebirth, but soon enough Nadia and Alan must again find a way to escape their interdimensional prison. As Nadia puts it, “When the universe fucks with you, let it.” These two have the worst luck.

Joining Lyonne and Barnett on this time-twisting journey are a few familiar faces, including Greta Lee (Maxine), Rebecca Henderson (Lizzy) and Elizabeth Ashley (Ruth). But the universe is expanding this time around: Also along for the ride are Schitt’s Creek’s Annie Murphy, House of Cards Carolyn Michelle Smith and Chappie’s Sharlto Copley. You can get a first look at Season 2 right here before it starts streaming April 20, and watch a new teaser below. What a concept!
