Noah Centineo is gearing up to be your worst nightmare — if you’re an ’80s-style movie villain. The actor will star as the titular character in director Jalmari Helander’s John Rambo, a prequel to the classic 1982 Sylvester Stallone flick First Blood. While the action-packed role might surprise some Centineo fans who know him as a rom-com powerhouse, he’s more suited to the role than you might think.

Centineo got his start in sitcoms like Austin & Ally and Shake It Up, as well as in dramas like The Fosters, but had his big break as Lara Jean Song Covey’s crush Peter Kavinsky in the rom-com To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its sequels and spin-off, XO, Kitty. From there, he’d take on additional romantic roles in movies like Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, Swiped, The Perfect Date, and Charlie’s Angels. In 2022, Centineo transitioned to the action genre with series like The Recruit and movies like Black Adam and Warfare. He’ll also soon lead director Kitao Sakurai’s upcoming Street Fighter adaptation. Read on for more about Centineo’s movies and series available to watch on Netflix.

The Recruit

Centineo stars as rookie CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks in this spy adventure series created by Alexi Hawley (The Rookie). Owen is a daring but inexperienced attorney who’s thrown into the deep end in his first week on the job when he comes across a letter written by former government asset Max Meladze (Laura Haddock). She’s threatening to expose the agency unless she’s exonerated of a serious crime. As Max and Owen start up a dangerous game of cat and mouse, the new recruit is forced to figure out the world of international espionage on the fly. Can he make it out unscathed? Or, at the very least, alive? Fivel Stewart (Atypical), Colton Dunn (Superstore), Aarti Mann (The Big Bang Theory), Daniel Quincy Annoh (Isle of Alan), Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black), Byron Mann (Altered Carbon), Angel Parker (All American), Kaylah Zander (Rescued by Ruby), and Vondie Curtis-Hall (Harriet) co-star.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Lara Jean Song Covey (Lana Condor) is a romantic at heart. For years, she wrote love letters to her crushes that she never sent, and when those letters accidentally get mailed — including to her sister’s ex-boyfriend Josh (Israel Broussard) — she’s mortified. But one of the boys, the perpetually popular Peter Kavinsky (Centineo), hatches a mutually beneficial plan: They fake a relationship, which will serve to make Peter’s ex jealous, and to convince Josh that Lara Jean is over him. Now all they have to do is not catch feelings while holding hands and going on romantic dates … Easy, right?

This rom-com series, directed by Susan Johnson (Carrie Pilby), is based on Jenny Han’s novel and has two sequels also based on Han’s books: To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and To All the Boys: Always and Forever, both of which are also available on Netflix.

Sierra Burgess Is a Loser

Clever but unpopular teenager Sierra Burgess (Shannon Purser) has a problem: She’s in a wrong-number texting situationship with Jamey (Centineo), a popular football player from another school. Jamey thinks he’s texting with Veronica (Kristine Froseth), a cheerleader who gave him Sierra’s number as a prank and to avoid telling him she already has a boyfriend. As Sierra and Jamey grow (virtually) closer, she’s forced to think outside the box, and she asks for Veronica’s help, leading to an unexpected connection. This teen dramedy series directed by Ian Samuels is a modern retelling of Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac and also stars RJ Cyler (The Harder They Fall), Loretta Devine (The Starling), and Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why).

The Perfect Date

Does the perfect date exist? If you ask teenager and Yale University hopeful Brooks Rattigan (Centineo), he’ll tell you he has an app for that. To save money for college, Brooks launches an app offering his services as the ideal fake date, harnessing his adaptable personality to tailor himself to each person’s needs. But when he begins to develop real feelings for one of his clients, he’s forced to rethink his future. This romantic comedy is based on The Stand-In by Steve Bloom. Laura Marano (The Royal Treatment), Odiseas Georgiadis (Trinkets), Camila Mendes (Do Revenge), and Matt Walsh (A Futile and Stupid Gesture) also star.
