K-pop and rom-com fans, bask in the glory that is King the Land. The series stars two supergroup celebs — YoonA (Lim Yoon-a) from Girls’ Generation and Junho (Lee Jun-ho) of 2PM — as hotel staff whose workplace run-ins eventually turn into romance. From creators Lim Hyun-ook, Chun Sung-il and Choi Rome, the series follows Gu Won (Lee), an über-wealthy young buck trying to prove himself as a hotelier within his family’s cutthroat business, and Cheon Sa-rang (Lim), a gleeful hotel employee who’s hopelessly devoted to her job. The two initially butt heads, but gradually their defenses start to melt. Yeah, things are about to get adorable.

What happens in King the Land?

At King Hotel, King the Land is a VVIP business lounge owned by King Group, a chaebol (basically, a family-owned mega-conglomerate). Won is the lucky heir to the company, but he’s not too thrilled about it. While Won’s worked hard to study and land a good gig within his family’s company, he lacks a sense of humor and never cracks a smile. Won’s standoffishness may be in part due to his mom’s absence — she disappeared years ago, and he’s desperate to find out what happened to her.

Sa-rang, on the other hand, is King Hotel’s most enthusiastic staff member. Despite lacking experience or the “right” education, she’s ecstatic when she lands a job as a trainee. The hotel, where she went with her mom as a kid, holds a special place in her heart. As long as she’s employed there, she’s content. Sa-rang quickly becomes one of the most competent — and smiley — employees there.

So when the happy-go-lucky Sa-rang meets grumpy nepo baby Won, the two clash. He can’t stand her “fake” smile, and she can’t stand his bad attitude. But Won and Sa-rang’s frequent squabbles cause the pair to become better acquainted — despite their many differences. And you know what? They may even be falling for each other.
