After reshaping the sci-fi genre with Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker is turning his attention to a “stunningly original” detective series: Charlie Brooker’s Blackmere will premiere in 2027.

The exact meaning of the title remains a mystery (hint: say it slowly), but there are already plenty of reasons to tune in to solve it. Four of them come in the form of a powerhouse roster of British actors: Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon, MobLand), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, The Watchers), Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, The Abandons), and Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat)

A serious man stands behind blue police tapeat night, next to a car and in front of a building with lit windows. The scene appears tense and dramatic, with wet pavement reflecting lights.

Back when the series, still untitled at the time, was announced in 2025, Brooker couldn’t resist poking fun at the announcement itself. “I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release,” Brooker told Tudum. “I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.”

You heard the man. Read on for more about Blackmere.

What is Charlie Brooker’s Blackmere about?

Here’s the official description: “An absurd comedy disguised as an incredibly serious crime thriller. Tormented Detective John Blackmere leaves the rain-soaked Northern city of Bleakford for London to avenge his partner’s death and catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims. Contains blood and frowning.”

Two serious men stand indoors in a dimly lit, industrial-looking space with broken ceiling panels and dramatic lighting, both looking slightly upward with concerned expressions.
A woman with braids wearing a police lanyard stands indoors, looking concerned, surrounded by colleagues in a dimly lit, busy police station environment.
A stern police officer in uniform faces a man in a dimly lit control room, surrounded by computer monitors and electronic equipment, creating a tense atmosphere.

Who is the creative team responsible for Charlie Brooker’s Blackmere?
