What would you spend to save the world? Your time, your safety, or every last won in your wallet? In the new Korean series Cashero, coming to Netflix on December 26, that’s the question facing Kang Sang-ung (Lee Jun-ho), an ordinary community center employee who suddenly gains superpowers that ebb and flow relative to the amount of cash he has on hand. With every use of his gifts draining his funds, Sang-ung’s modest life and dreams are upended as he’s pulled into a world of hidden powers and high-cost heroics. The series, directed by Lee Chang-min and written by Lee Jane and Jeon Chan-ho, is based on the Kakao Webtoon of the same name, created by team befar.

Here’s everything to know about Cashero.

Lee Jun-ho and Kim Hye-jun in Cashero

What is Cashero about?

Kang Sang-ung (Lee Jun-ho) is just a down-to-earth civil worker who dreams of owning a home — until he suddenly gains superpowers that are directly intertwined with the amount of cash he has in his pocket. Every time he throws a punch, his bank balance drops, forcing him and his longtime girlfriend Kim Min-suk (Kim Hye-jun) — a razor-sharp math whiz — to crunch the numbers on the heroics that burn through his pay.

Sang-ung soon learns he’s not the only one with powers when he’s approached by lawyer Byeon Ho-in (Kim Byong-chul), the head of the Korean Coalition of Superheroes, whose own abilities kick in when he drinks. Ho-in sees Sang-ung as a potential ally in his fight against the mysterious “Criminal Association,” which hunts down superheroes. They team up with Bang Eun-mi (Kim Hyang-gi), a pastry-loving telekinetic whose powers are linked to her caloric intake, to take on the evil forces of the Criminal Association and defend everyday peace.
